I don't know how everyone else feels, but personally I hope Mike Vick gets slammed for this whole dog fighting thing. I know that dog fighting is illegal, deplorable and disgusting, but that is not even my major issue. My problem is that no matter how benign or major his involvement in the activity was, I am sick and tired of pro athletes doing illegal or stupid shit and getting off with no more than a insignificant fine or reprimand. Small, team imposed fines don't seem to affect these guys and only substantial losses of cash are even going to make them think twice about their actions. I am a fan of the NFL's new behavior policies and so far I think Roger Goodell has done a good job implementing and enforcing them. The fact of the matter here is that no matter what happens to Vick in the courts, whether he is charged heavily or just as an accomplice, he still owned the property where dog fighting occurred. That alone should be enough for suspension under the new NFL policy and criminal charges of some kind. I know they are probably going to wait until the legal proceedings are done so that the extent of his involvement is fully known, but what happens in the meantime. I hope everything comes to light soon and people will step up with evidence so the NFL can lay down its verdict sooner. Right now it looks like Mike Vick will get a reprieve until 2008, unfortunately.

Here Comes Braun

Its about time. I know Ryan Braun's been hampered a bit recently with a wrist injury, but he couldn't be more needed right now with the Brewers. I can't remember the last time I was so excited to see a prospect come up from the minors. I'm not saying he has to save the franchise all by himself, but his bat should definitely help. I really, really just want to go to the park and watch him swing the bat. That should be a lot of fun.

It looks like I had a pretty good prediction in my earlier post about Braun.

Its good to know that the Brewers don't buckle under pressure. I agree that the death of Cardinals relief pitcher Josh Hancock was a tragedy, but he was a singular case that was overlooked for far too long. Had the Cardinals organization taken what could even be considered as appropriate or decent steps towards helping him with his drinking problem, this situation could have been avoided. Instead, teams all over America are flipping out about the fact that they allow players to drink beer in the clubhouse after games. This isn't the 70's or 80's anymore when people like Gorman Thomas would sit for hours in the clubhouse after games and tie one on. Teams still can't control what players are doing outside of the clubhouse, but inside they can show good judgement on problem areas. Having beer in the locker room isn't a problem area, but allowing a player with a history of alcohol abuse to drink himself under the table and then drive is. Major leagues baseball teams and organizations like to consider themselves to be families and as such, have the obligation to watch over each other and help when difficulties arise, not to set blanket rules that don't apply within their own situation.

For those of you who have never understood why it sometimes takes HBO so long to air new seasons of their original shows that seem to take almost nothing to produce, there's hope. Entourage will take a break after ending their third season for all of ........... 14 days. That's right, the second half of season 3 ends on June 3 and the fourth season starts on June 17. While I'm sure this is mostly due to the fact that they separated the two halves of the season so it could air with the Soprano's, it also shows just how easily they can crank these shows out if they want to. I'll bet it only takes about an hour and a half to film and episode of Entourage.

Its pretty interesting to see how two African American writers for ESPN.com, Jemele Hill and Todd Boyd, have differing views on Barry Bonds' chase of the home run record. Personally I like the whole idea of innocent until proven guilty and if Bonds is found innocent, I'll be perfectly happy with him breaking the record. The only problem is there is such a huge cloud hanging over Bonds, McGwire, Palmeiro and all of baseball right now that its impossible to ignore. This needs to be sorted out soon. There's been enough foot-dragging involved on the part of Major League Baseball and any prosecutor or congressman who has tried to find the truth. MLB is definitely to blame for some of the steroid problem (the whole not making them illegal thing is a fairly large oversight), but the fact remains that they are declared illegal substances by the U.S. Government. How is it that they aren't going at the subject with their guns blazing anymore. Hopefully this Kirk Radomski gives them enough information to start the process back up again.

An Appeal to the People at Adult Swim

Everyone who reads this blog with any regularity already knows that I am a big fan of a few shows on Cartoon Network's late night program, Adult Swim. Even if I don't love the show and watch it regularly, I can accept that it is on and still get into an episode. With that said, the people behind Adult Swim's programming schedule have decided to push one of their newer shows, Saul of the Mole Men, down our throats. Saul is a live action parody of many shows in the 80's with low production values and even lower talent levels. Unfortunately for Saul and the people at Adult Swim, the show completely lacks any kind of comedic value. I have watched a few episodes so far (only because it is on during the second half of the Aqua Teen half-hour) and I haven't laughed once. I know I like to exaggerate from time to time, but this isn't one of those times. It really, really isn't a funny show. So please, Adult Swim people, put something else on. Give me another 15 minutes of Aqua Teen, or Frisky Dingo, or even a colonoscopy. Just take Saul off the air, or relegate it to Sunday mornings opposite Christian TV shows.

Disney just posted 9 minutes of their upcoming film Ratatouille on their website. It comes with an intro by writer/director Brad Bird. I think this movie is going to be awesome and the animation looks great. Had I remembered at the time that this movie was coming out this year I would have placed it right with Sunshine and Spider-man 3 as my most anticipated movies of the year.

The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival starts today and even though I don't think anyone reading this post is there, we can all see some of it anyway. They are streaming a lot of the live performances in the AT&T Blue Room starting this afternoon. I haven't watched any yet (obviously), but hopefully they will be quality.

Seth Green and Matthew Senreich are coming out with a Robot Chicken : Star Wars special for Adult Swim. The special air on June 17th and will kick-off a Robot Chicken marathon leading up to the new season.

Kirsten Dunst is going to be the latest actor turned director. She will be directing a short supernatural film that will star herself and Michelle Williams.

I don't even need to make jokes about this, she kind of sums it up all by herself, "I've always [been a fan of] Roman Polanski and, you know, Repulsion with Catherine Deneuve and, like, Rosemary's Baby." This is going to be, like, the bestest, like, scariest movie ever!...... like.

New Interpol Album

Interpol just changed the background of their website with the date 07.10.07 on it. Since I heard they were coming out with a new CD, this timely change of scenery leads me to hypothesize that this is the date the album officially releases. Hopefully this also means they will be rolling through Milwaukee sometime soon. Never fear, I will engage in more sleuthing until the full truth is discovered.

I just recently stumbled upon Minnesota Twin's reliever Pat Neshek's blog. On it, he talks about whatever he's up to and who the team is playing, but he also brokers deals for baseball cards autographs and other memorabilia. Having been a pretty big collector myself, I was immediately drawn to this site. Now I need to find a way to swindle him out of some good stuff.

Here's a pretty good article about the upcoming football season for the Badgers. With the spring game coming up on Saturday its never too early to start thinking football. Granted, I'm in full baseball mode right now, but I'm still pretty excited about next year for the good guys. It seems like they have a couple decent QB options between the mentally challenged Donovan and the unproven Everidge. Should be interesting.

I attended the Cleveland Indians Anaheim Angels game last night IN MILWAUKEE. It was great. I had second row in the loge tickets and for tonight's game I have first row of the loge, right behind home plate. I couldn't ask for much better. Tonight promises to be a little less busy with the crappy weather as well. I came across a pretty good article about last night on ESPN.com.

Last night I saw and episode of Frisky Dingo for the first time and I thought it was hilarious. It is from the people who made Sealab 2021, except so far I think its better. The show centers around the billionaire playboy Xander Crews who becomes a super hero named Awesome X and a giant monster named Killface who is aimed at destroying earth. You can watch the pilot episode on the website. It isn't as good as the one I saw on adult swim, but its still pretty funny.

P.S. After further review I would like to say that ShinChan isn't really all that good. I kind of liked the first episode I saw, but everything since has been a bust.

Brewers Predictions

I am finding it more and more difficult to deal with all the praise the Brewers have started getting in the media these days. Everywhere I turn, someone is picking them to win the National League Central or at least make the playoffs as a possible wild card. I don't know how to deal with this. This has never really happened in my lifetime and at least not in the time I can remember (I don't remember the season of 2000, too many concussions. But, the concussions were probably a direct result of my concrete dorm room wall and the Brewers performance). As far as I've always known, the Brewers are always expected to finish near last if not dead last in everything. They've always been like the Indians team from Major League, without of course, the ability to rally together against their owner and win ball games.

Now they have a strong rotation, good arms in the pen, and possibly a very solid line-up from top to bottom. It seems like their the it pick this season to do great things. Maybe the Tigers have something to do with this. Like the Brewers this year, they started last year with good pitching and a fairly young, but possibly strong offense. The only difference is that no one picked them to do anything. Now all of the media experts don't want to make that mistake twice, so they are going with the team most likely to be this years Tigers. I can't abide this. For one thing, I hate when people start to make stretches like this and go for "Fad" teams. Whether I like it or not, right now its popular to cast your vote for the Crew. The fact is, the Brewers still have to prove themselves in what should be a tough division. The Cardinals are the reigning champions with most of their firepower back for another run. The Astros have a very good line-up and if Roger Clemens decides to comes back sometime after the season starts, they will have one of the best rotations in baseball. The Cubs just finished spending 300 million bucks in the off-season (not that it will help them, cause they're the Cubs) and the Pirates and Reds look like they will be better as well. I know not every team can be better than they were the year before in one division. Someone will be bad (hopefully the Cubs again), but at least the Astros and the Cardinals shouldn't disappoint. I love what this team can do, but they still need to prove that they can do it. Sheets, Weeks and Hardy need to prove they can stay healthy. Braun and Hart need to show that they can get it done at the highest level and everyone else needs to play better than they did last year. I think they can do it, I just think people on ESPN.com should pick someone else and not jinx us.

With all that said, here are my picks for the NL Central.

1. Brewers

3. Astros
4. Pirates
5. Reds
6. Cubs

Hey, I'm a Brewers fan. I can say they're going to win it without jinxing them, its just the experts that I worry about. The truth is that I really believe we can win the NL Central and go to the playoffs this year. I love this team, and I no longer have some of the doubts I once had about our third base situation. I think Counselnino will do just fine until Ryan Braun can get his feet beneath him (or better yet, his arm) on defense. Whenever he's called up, opposing pitchers beware. He will add a lot to a potentially potent offense. I also firmly believe the Cubs will suck once again.
